Cobh to Mark 114th Anniversary of Titanic Sinking
Cobh marks the 114th anniversary of the Titanic sinking on Sunday 12 April with a public ceremony at the Titanic Memorial Garden at noon.
The harbour town of Cobh will pause to remember one of history's most enduring maritime tragedies on Sunday, 12 April 2026, when a special public ceremony takes place at the Titanic Memorial Garden to mark the 114th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
Organised by Cobh Tourism, the ceremony begins at noon and will include music, prayers, and the laying of wreaths at the glass Memorial Wall, honouring the 123 passengers who boarded the liner in what was then Queenstown on 11 April 1912, 79 of whom would not survive.
Invited dignitaries, local clergy, a Colour Party from the Cobh Branch of the Organisation of Ex-Servicemen and Women (O.N.E.), Cobh's Historical Animation Groups, and the Commodore Male Voice Choir will all take part in what promises to be a moving tribute.
This year's commemorations coincide with a particularly busy weekend in the town. The Sonia O'Sullivan Cobh 10 Mile Road Race will bring considerable energy to the streets, while the British Titanic Society will be concluding its annual convention at the Commodore Hotel, drawing enthusiasts from across the UK and beyond. With activity across the town, the memorial elements will be respectfully centred at the Titanic Memorial Garden, providing a focused and reflective setting for the occasion.
As the Titanic's final port of call, Cobh holds a unique and permanent place in the story of the ill-fated liner, drawing descendants of passengers and visitors from around the world each year.
Members of the public are warmly invited to attend. Those wishing to explore the history further can visit Cobh Heritage Centre, Titanic Experience Cobh, or join the Titanic Trail guided walking tour. Further details are available at visitcobh.com.
