Urgent Road Closure in Ballycotton Begins Today for Week-Long Wastewater Works
L-3636 Barrack Hill, Ballycotton closed until Friday 3 Oct for wastewater works. Divert via R629 Main Street and Chapel Road east.
Cork County Council has implemented an urgent 24-hour road closure on Barrack Hill in Ballycotton from this morning, affecting a key section of the L-3636 road for five days whilst essential wastewater infrastructure work takes place.
The western section of the L-3636 Barrack Hill, from its junction with Main Street to a point north of Páirc na Gleann, closed at 08:00 this morning and will remain shut until 18:00 on Friday, 3 October 2025.
The closure has been ordered under Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993 to facilitate the connection of wastewater services to the existing sewer network, works deemed necessary in the interests of public safety.
Motorists are advised to divert via the R629 Main Street, Ballycotton, and the L-3636 Chapel Road east. The council has confirmed that local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the closure, ensuring residents can still reach their properties.
As this is classified as an urgent closure under Article 12(6) of the Roads Regulations 1994, the council notes that the notice does not facilitate the making of objections or observations. Full details of the closure are available on the Cork County Council website under reference URC-9990042025.
The Ballycotton area will see increased traffic on alternative routes during the working week, with the closure in effect around the clock until Friday evening.
