RSA Issues Easter Weekend Road Safety Warning Amid Storm Dave Threat

The Road Safety Authority has urged road users across Ireland to take extra care this Easter bank holiday weekend, with Met Éireann having issued Yellow Wind warnings and a Weather Advisory already in effect.

A Yellow Advisory is currently active for all of Ireland through to midnight Monday, warning of unsettled and potentially stormy conditions. There is a risk of severe or damaging west to southwest gusts, coastal flooding around high tide times, and particular danger in exposed, low-lying locations along Atlantic coastal counties.

A Yellow Wind Warning will come into effect from 3pm today, Saturday, covering all of Ireland through to midnight. Storm Dave is expected to bring very strong southerly winds, veering westerly by the evening, with severe gusts and coastal gales.

The RSA is advising drivers to slow down and increase braking distance in wet conditions, with particular caution urged on high-speed roads such as dual carriageways and motorways where aquaplaning is a risk. Drivers are warned to keep well back from goods vehicles in spray conditions, and to avoid flooded roads entirely rather than attempting to pass through.

Road users should watch for fallen debris, be aware that strong crosswinds can affect vehicle control, and allow extra space around cyclists and motorcyclists who are especially vulnerable in windy conditions. The RSA also advises driving with dipped headlights at all times throughout the weekend.

Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists are urged to take extra care, wear high-visibility clothing, and be alert to the risk of sudden gusts pushing them into the path of oncoming traffic.

Further severe weather driving advice is available on the RSA website.
