Cork County Council Update on Status Yellow Rainfall Warning

Cork County Council has issued a weather advisory ahead of a Status Yellow Rainfall Warning that will affect the county from tomorrow evening through to the early hours of Monday morning, with West Cork and Bandon-Kinsale areas facing the highest risk of flooding.

The warning, issued by Met Éireann, comes into effect at 6 PM on Saturday, December 13 and remains in place until midnight on Sunday night (00:00 Monday, December 15). Cork County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team met this afternoon to assess preparations and coordinate the response.

Following persistent rainfall in recent days, rivers across the county are approaching bank-full conditions. The combination of heavy rain falling on already saturated ground presents particular concerns for the West Cork and Bandon-Kinsale Municipal Districts, where flooding hotspots are being actively monitored.

Council crews have been deployed across affected areas, with pumps positioned at known trouble spots and sandbags made available at multiple locations throughout the warning period.

Residents should prepare for possible river flooding, surface water accumulation, difficult travel conditions, and disruption to outdoor events. The council is urging motorists to exercise extreme caution, avoid driving through flowing or standing water, and remain conscious of cyclists and pedestrians during heavy rainfall.

Any flooding incidents or road damage should be reported to Cork County Council's Emergency Out of Hours number on (021) 4800048. In genuine emergencies, residents should call 999 or 112 for the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Gardaí, or Irish Coast Guard as appropriate.

Power supply disruptions should be reported to ESB Networks at 1800 372 999. Weather updates are available at Met Éireann's website, with Cork County Council providing ongoing updates through their website and social media channels.
