Cork City Launches Public Consultation on First-Ever Local Safety Plan
Cork City has launched a public consultation on its first-ever Local Safety Plan 2026–2029. Have your say at corkcity.ie/communitysafety
Cork City has taken a significant step towards a safer future, with the launch of a major public consultation to shape the first-ever Cork City Local Safety Plan 2026–2029. Residents are being urged to have their say on community safety priorities before the plan is published later this year.
The initiative is being led by the recently established Cork City Local Community Safety Partnership, a statutory body bringing together An Garda Síochána, Cork City Council, the HSE, Tusla, Cork ETB, city councillors, the Cork City Public Participation Network, residents, and community and voluntary groups from across the city.
Cllr Terry Shannon, Chairperson of the Partnership, said:
"This is a milestone moment for Cork. The Local Safety Plan will shape how we work together to build a safer, more inclusive city for everyone. The voices of our residents and communities are essential in this process."
Chief Superintendent Colm Noonan of An Garda Síochána added:
"Community safety is about more than policing. It's about wellbeing, belonging, and ensuring every person feels safe where they live, work, and spend time. This plan will only succeed if it reflects the lived experience of the people of Cork City."
The public can contribute in several ways, including completing an online survey, submitting written feedback, or attending a drop-in clinic at local libraries across the city. The clinic schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, 28 April: Blackpool Library, 10am–12pm; Hollyhill Library, 2.30pm–4.30pm
- Wednesday, 29 April: Blarney Library, 10am–12pm
