Nationwide Rain Advisory: Heavy Showers and Risk of Thunderstorms from Sunday
Heavy showers, possible thunderstorms and spot flooding nationwide from Sunday morning to Monday.
Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory of widespread heavy showers and longer spells of rain developing from the southwest on Saturday night and continuing through Sunday, with the potential for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in places.
The advisory, issued at 09:18 on Saturday 29 August 2026, warns that some downpours could be torrential and, while hit and miss in nature, localised flooding may occur in affected areas.
The advisory comes into effect at 03:00 on Sunday 30 August 2026 and remains in place until 03:00 on Monday 31 August 2026.
Nearly the entire country is covered, including Cork and the rest of Munster. The full list of affected counties is Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.
Motorists and those with outdoor plans across Cork and Munster are advised to allow extra time for journeys over the weekend and to stay alert for spot flooding on low-lying roads, particularly where downpours turn heavy or thundery. Anyone caught outdoors during thunderstorms should avoid sheltering under trees or umbrellas and stay away from open water.
