Cold Start Ahead of Unsettled Week as Milder Air Arrives
Milder but wetter conditions ahead through the week with showers and possible thunder.
Cork faces a cold, frosty (in places) morning before transitioning to milder but wetter conditions as Atlantic rain spreads across the county from this evening onwards.
Today's forecast, issued by Met Éireann at 06:00 this morning, promises a bright but chilly start to Tuesday with frost in places. Most areas will enjoy dry and sunny conditions through the day, though cloud will build from the west during the afternoon.
By evening, patches of rain and drizzle will develop near Atlantic coasts as a change in weather patterns begins. Highest temperatures will reach 7 to 9 degrees in light variable breezes.
Tonight will turn cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle becoming widespread across Cork. Southerly winds will increase to moderate or fresh strength, with temperatures holding between 4 and 7 degrees.
Wednesday brings a dull day with widespread rain and drizzle easing through the morning. The precipitation will become more patchy as the day progresses, accompanied by mist. However, Cork residents will notice milder conditions, with temperatures climbing to 10 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest to west winds.
The unsettled pattern continues through the week. Thursday will see a more persistent band of rain moving eastwards across the county during the morning and early afternoon, followed by a mix of sunshine and showers. Temperatures will reach 12 to 14 degrees.
Friday and Saturday promise colder conditions returning, with widespread showers that may turn heavy at times. Both days carry the possibility of hail and thunder, with temperatures dropping to 7 to 10 degrees on Friday and 6 to 9 degrees on Saturday.
Current indications suggest the unsettled conditions will persist into Sunday, with wet and blustery weather likely.
