Youghal Road Closures And Bus Diversions In Place This Sunday

Several streets in Youghal town will close for a road race on Sunday 9 August 2026, with Bus Éireann Routes 40 and 260 running on diversion for most of the day as a result.

Cork County Council has confirmed that Catherine Street, North Main Street (to O'Neill Crowley Street), The Mall, Strand Street, Friar Street, Windmill Hill (local access only), the R634/Upper Strand Road as far as New Line and the R908 Front Strand Road junction, and the R633 from the Beanfield Road junction to the R634 junction will all close from 07:30 to 14:00 on the day. Local access will not be maintained within the closed sections for the duration.

Traffic heading east on the R634 is advised to turn left at Summerfield Cross, continue on the New Line (L3810) to the stop sign, then turn right to reach the base of Cork Hill; the same detour applies in reverse for westbound traffic. Traffic can still travel west through the town's one-way system as far as O'Neill Crowley Street, from where a right turn onto North Main Street via the post office remains unaffected by the closure.

Bus Éireann has confirmed Routes 40 and 260 will divert from 07:30 until approximately 16:00. Inbound services towards Cork will run via Main Street/Tallow Street to the Cork Hill junction, then Cork Hill, New Line, and the R634 at Summerfield Cross before resuming their normal route. Outbound services from Cork will follow the same route in reverse. Temporary stops will operate at the base of Cork Hill, and Route 40 passengers can also use the Route 260 stop at Summerfield Cross.

Motorists and bus passengers travelling through Youghal on Sunday should allow extra time.
