Urgent Safety Alert: 114,000 Irish Homes Affected by Electrocution Risk from Heating Pumps
The CCPC has issued an urgent safety alert as 114,000 Tucson heating pumps in Irish homes present a serious electrocution risk. Free replacements available.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has issued one of its most serious safety warnings today, affecting approximately 114,000 circulating pumps installed in heating systems across Ireland, including many Cork homes. The Tucson pumps, manufactured between 2017 and 2024, present a serious risk of electrocution.
The alert, announced on 6 October 2025, applies to Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m pumps. While homeowners can continue using their heating systems normally, they must not touch, disconnect, adjust or attempt any maintenance on affected pumps.
The CCPC launched its investigation following a referral from the Health and Safety Authority. As a result, manufacturer Tucson Pumps is rolling out a major free replacement programme, with approved qualified technicians available to safely replace affected units.
Patrick Kenny, Member of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, said:
"This is one of the largest product safety alerts ever issued by the CCPC, and one of the most serious. There are about 114,000 of these pumps in Irish homes.
If you've had work done on your heating system in the last 8 years, you need to check if you have one of these pumps. Check your heating system very carefully: do not touch the pump, just look for the Tucson brand, find the serial number and check it against the list on CCPC.ie. The affected pump can then be replaced for free by an approved Tucson technician or service agent."
The defect relates to the mains cable connection. The cable can be connected in reverse, allowing the live pin to connect to the earth pin, creating a serious electrocution hazard.
Mr Kenny particularly highlighted the risk to tradespeople working on heating systems during the busy autumn servicing season. He stressed that anyone working on heating systems must familiarise themselves with the recall details and avoid touching the electrical connection of affected pumps.
He also emphasised the importance of retailers checking stock and stopping sales of affected units immediately.

Homeowners should look for the Tucson brand on their pump and locate the serial number on the front panel. Affected serial numbers begin with S/N A, S/N B, S/N C, S/N D44 or earlier, or S/N 2017 through S/N 2020.
Serial numbers can be checked at CCPC.ie, tucsonpumps.com/serial-number-checking-tool, or by calling 01 842 6255. The free replacement programme is available through approved Tucson technicians and service agents.
For Cork homeowners concerned about their heating systems, this alert comes at a critical time as the heating season approaches. With thousands of Cork homes likely affected, checking your system could prevent a serious accident.
The CCPC's product safety remit covers toys, domestic gas and electrical appliances, consumer PPE and general consumer products. Officers investigate complaints, inspect products for compliance, and work with manufacturers, importers, retailers, Customs and other EU bodies to protect consumers.
