Uisce Éireann to Replace Ageing Water Mains in Codrum, Macroom
Uisce Éireann begins water main replacement works in Codrum, Macroom next week to improve supply reliability for local homes and businesses.
Residents and businesses in Codrum, Macroom can look forward to a more reliable water supply as Uisce Éireann prepares to replace old and damaged water mains in the area from next week.
The works, part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, will take place along the L3415 between Crescent housing estate and Macroom Tool Hire and Sales. As well as replacing the existing mains, the project involves laying new water service connections from the public water main to customers' property boundaries.
The ageing pipes had been prone to frequent bursts, causing disruption for homes and businesses while also wasting treated drinking water. The upgrade is designed to boost network resilience and give the Codrum community greater confidence in their supply.
Jack Cronin, Uisce Éireann, said: "Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. Its impact is felt every day, in every tap, home and community. By focusing on delivering that reliable supply, we continue to strengthen water service resilience for the people of Codrum today and for generations to come."
Ward and Burke Construction will carry out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with a scheduled completion date in April.
Traffic management will be in place throughout to protect crews and the public, though local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
The project is part of a wider national effort to tackle leakage across Ireland's extensive water network, which stretches more than 65,000 km underground. National leakage has fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36%, its lowest ever level.
