Toi-Toys Recalls Super Stretchy Soldier Toy Over Possible Asbestos in Sand

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a product safety notice for the Toi-Toys Super Stretchy Soldier toy, stating that the sand may contain asbestos.

The notice, published on 4 September 2026, applies to the product carrying barcode 8714627012248 and model number 35162Z.

According to the CCPC, the products present a risk to health as the sand may contain asbestos, a substance banned across the EU because it poses a risk to health. The Health Service Executive's (HSE) Public Health advice is that there is low risk to human health from these sand products based on current information.

The products were available for purchase from various retailers in the Republic of Ireland, the CCPC said.

The CCPC is advising consumers who have the product in their home to stop using it immediately. If the sand is still packaged, it should be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealed securely, labelled clearly, and stored in a secure location out of reach of children.

If the product is punctured and the sand inside is accessible, the CCPC advises cleaning sites where the product was used with wet cloths to avoid generating dust, while wearing gloves and a protective FFP2 face mask or equivalent. The sand, gloves, mask, and cloths should then be double bagged, sealed securely, labelled clearly, and stored in a secure location out of reach of children.

Before disposing of the product, consumers are asked to contact their place of purchase to request a refund. A list of civic amenity sites available for disposal is published on the CCPC website.

The CCPC said it continues to engage with the HSE, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), as required, and will provide further updates as soon as additional information becomes available.
