Orange rainfall warning in effect for Cork until 10am: very heavy thundery rain, blustery conditions, flooding and poor visibility.
A Status Orange rainfall warning is in effect for Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, with very heavy thundery rain and blustery conditions expected to bring flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
The warning was issued at 05:58 on Sunday 27 September 2026, with an expected onset of 06:00 and an expiry of 10:00 the same day.
In addition to the rainfall risk, the combination of spring tides, surge and strong onshore winds may result in wave overtopping along southern and southeastern coastlines.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed and increase following distance in heavy rain, avoid driving through flood water where depth is uncertain, and allow extra time for journeys during the Orange warning period. Turning back rather than attempting a flooded road is strongly advised, as just a small amount of moving water can sweep a car off course.
