Road Closures Announced in Youghal for Bay Half Marathon
Cork County Council will close roads in Youghal town from 07:30 to 14:00 on 9 August 2026 for the Bay Half Marathon. Local access will not be maintained.
Cork County Council has confirmed a series of road closures in Youghal town for the Youghal Bay Half Marathon on Sunday 9 August 2026, with local access not maintained for the duration of the race.
Under Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993 and Article 12 of the Road Regulations 1994, the council will close Catherine Street, North Main Street to O'Neill Crowley Street, The Mall, Strand Street and Friar Street. Windmill Hill will have local access only.
The closures also extend to the R634/Upper Strand Road as far as New Line and the R908 Front Strand Road junction, and to the R633 from the Beanfield Road junction to the R634 junction.
The roads will be closed daily from 07:30hrs to 14:00hrs on Sunday 9 August 2026. Local access will not be maintained throughout the closure.
An alternative route has been put in place. Traffic travelling east bound on the R634 should take a left turn at Summerfield Cross, continue on the New Line road (L3810) to the stop sign, then turn right towards the base of Cork Hill. The detour applies in reverse for traffic travelling in the opposite direction.
Traffic in Youghal town centre will be permitted to travel west bound on the one-way system as far as O'Neill Crowley Street, where drivers can turn right onto North Main Street by the Post Office. This part of town is not affected by the closure.
Queries can be directed to Cork County Council's Roads and Transportation directorate at roadclosures@corkcoco.ie. The closure reference is TRC-79-2025.
