Revenue Seizes Contraband Worth Over €608,900 in Nationwide Operations
Revenue seizes contraband worth over €608,900 in nationwide operations, with parcels destined for various addresses across Ireland intercepted this week.
Revenue officers have seized contraband with an estimated value of over €608,900 following a series of operations over the week commencing 20 April 2026, targeting smuggling activity across Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations. The largest single seizure was 7.2kg of cocaine with an estimated value of over €503,000, intercepted during a physical search of a parcel originating from Rotterdam at the DPD Athlone Parcel Hub.
Further seizures included 1.9kg of herbal cannabis (estimated value over €37,400), 2.4kg of cannabis resin (over €14,100), and various other illicit drugs with an estimated value of over €8,200. The herbal cannabis and remaining drug seizures were made with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Jasper. The parcels originated from the USA, the UK, and Spain, and were destined for addresses nationwide.
Officers also seized 171 counterfeit items with an estimated value of over €35,700, confirmed by the rights holders to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. Brands involved included Seiko, Louis Vuitton, Adidas, Nike, Chanel, and Ray-Ban, among others. Six weapons accessories, consisting of rifle magazines and pepper spray, were also seized.
Tobacco products with an estimated value of over €10,400 were also intercepted, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €8,100. Brands included Lucky Strike, Winston, and Amber Leaf.
