National Ambulance Service Urges Public to Reserve 112/999 for Life-Threatening Emergencies
National Ambulance Service experiencing high call volumes nationwide. Reserve 112/999 for life-threatening emergencies only.
The National Ambulance Service has issued an urgent appeal to the public as crews deal with exceptionally high call volumes across the country.
The NAS confirmed this evening that services are under significant pressure nationwide, with ambulance crews stretched responding to emergency calls. The service is asking people to carefully consider alternative healthcare options before dialling emergency numbers.
National Ambulance Service:
"We are extremely busy and are currently experiencing high call volumes nationwide. Please consider all available care options and contact 112/999 only in the event of a life-threatening emergency."
The appeal comes as emergency services face increased demand, with the NAS posting the alert on their official social media channels at 8:12pm this evening. Members of the public are being reminded that GPs, pharmacists, and injury units can provide care for non-emergency medical situations.
During periods of high demand, delays in response times can occur when ambulances are tied up attending non-urgent cases. Healthcare professionals advise that genuine emergencies requiring immediate ambulance response include severe breathing difficulties, chest pain, unconsciousness, serious bleeding that cannot be stopped, or suspected stroke symptoms.
For non-emergency medical advice, people can contact their GP during surgery hours or use out-of-hours GP services. Pharmacies can also provide guidance on minor ailments and appropriate treatment options.
