Met Éireann Updates Thunderstorm Warnings as Orange Alert Tightened and Yellow Issued for Munster

Met Éireann has updated its thunderstorm warnings for the south of Ireland this evening, tightening the existing Orange alert and issuing a new Yellow level warning across a wider area.

Both warnings were issued at 18:22 on Thursday, 25 June 2026.

The Orange Thunderstorm warning, which we reported on earlier this afternoon, has been updated. Waterford has been removed from the affected regions, with the Orange alert now covering Cork and Kerry only. Possible impacts remain the same: heavy downpours leading to flooding in places, lightning damage, hail, hazardous driving conditions, and very gusty winds. The Orange warning expires at 19:00 this evening.

A new Yellow Level Thunderstorm warning has also been issued for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford. Met Éireann notes that due to the hit and miss nature of thunderstorms, not all areas will experience them. Possible impacts under the Yellow warning include localised flooding, hail damage, difficult travelling conditions, damage to utilities including power, water, gas, and telecommunications, and very gusty winds. This warning remains in place until midnight on Thursday, 25 June 2026.
