Met Éireann has updated its advisory covering a prolonged spell of very warm or hot and dry weather, warning that impacts will still be felt even as temperatures fall back somewhat from recent high levels.

The advisory was originally issued on Monday 6 July 2026 at 15:17 and was updated on Friday 17 July 2026 at 13:54.

Met Éireann's advisory states:

"While temperatures will fall back somewhat from recent high levels, impacts will still be felt from the prolonged spell of very warm or hot and dry weather."

The public are advised to check the met.ie website and app for updated forecasts, along with watersafety.ie and gov.ie, as named in the advisory.

Potential impacts listed in the advisory include:

  • Water safety issues due to increased use of waterways, lakes and beaches
  • Some heat stress and dehydration, especially for the vulnerable and elderly
  • Potential disruption to public transport
  • Animal welfare issues
  • Drought concerns
  • Wildfires and forest fires
