Marina Park Opens Fully to Public Just in Time for Christmas

Cork City Council has announced the completion of the Marina Park project, with all areas including the Atlantic Pond and Sunken Garden now open to the public ahead of the festive season.

The 32-hectare park at the heart of the Docklands represents a significant addition to Cork's green spaces, measuring five times the size of Fitzgerald's Park.

The completed project features approximately 200 new semi-mature trees and more than five acres of new biodiverse planting, including shrubs, wildflowers, water-based plants, and bulbs, complementing the natural assets already present at the site.

Three new bridges have been installed as part of the development: the Atlantic Pond Bridge, a timber-deck bridge, and an elevated tree walkway.

The reimagined Atlantic Pond now offers improved accessibility with wider paths, new seating, and an amphitheatre-style area designed for visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings. The southern side features a new wooden pier with stepped access, suitable for activities such as launching model boats, along with the timber deck bridge.

The old broken concrete edge on the pond's southern side has been replaced with a soft, planted edge designed to enhance biodiversity at the site.

The park is now fully accessible for Christmas walks and outdoor gatherings with friends and family.
