M8 Northbound Closed Between Cashel and Thurles on Weekdays Until October
M8 northbound closed between J7 Cashel and J6 Thurles, 8am to 6pm weekdays until 10 October, for road resurfacing. Diversions in place.
Cork motorists travelling to Dublin face weekday daytime closures on the M8 in County Tipperary until October, with the northbound carriageway shut between Cashel and Thurles for resurfacing works.
Tipperary County Council has made an order under the Roads Act closing the northbound M8 between Junction 7 Cashel (North) and Junction 6 Thurles (Horse and Jockey) from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The closure came into effect on Tuesday 4 August 2026 and will remain in place until Saturday 10 October 2026.
The closure was announced by TII Traffic, with motorists advised to expect delays. Diversion routes will operate between Junction 7 Cashel and Junction 6 Horse and Jockey for the duration of the works.
A separate overnight closure of the southbound carriageway between the same junctions will take place from 9pm on Tuesday 11 August 2026 until 6am the following morning.
The M8 forms the main motorway route between Cork and Dublin, so drivers heading north on weekdays should allow extra time for their journeys while the works are under way.
