Met Éireann Updates Yellow Rain Warning as Status Orange Remains in Place for Cork

Met Éireann has updated its Status Yellow Rain warning associated with Storm Austen, while a Status Orange Rain warning remains in place for Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

The Status Yellow Rain warning applies to Leinster and Munster and is valid from 19:00 on Thursday 22 October 2026 until 10:00 on Friday 23 October 2026. Met Éireann says heavy rain associated with Storm Austen will spread eastwards across the country, and that strong easterly winds will back northwesterly and strengthen further, especially in the south and southeast.

Met Éireann advises people to be aware of potential impacts, including difficult travelling conditions, possible localised flooding, impact on outdoor events, debris and displaced loose objects, and some fallen trees and branches.

The Status Orange Rain warning for Cork, Kerry and Waterford is valid from 22:00 on Thursday 22 October 2026 until 05:00 on Friday 23 October 2026. Met Éireann describes it as intense rain associated with Storm Austen, and advises people to prepare for disruption and delays to public transport (rail, bus), expected flooding and very difficult travelling conditions.

The latest warnings are available on the Met Éireann weather warnings page.
