HSE Health App Update: Waiting Lists, Remote Appointments, and Screening Alerts Now Available

The HSE Health App has been updated to version 5.2, bringing a series of new features designed to give patients easier access to their health information and services directly from their smartphones.

The update introduces outpatient waiting list visibility, allowing users to see their position on a waiting list, the hospital involved, and the date they were added. Once appointments are created, users will receive notifications and can view full appointment details within the app.

Remote appointments have also been added to the app's outpatient section. Telephone and video consultations are now included, with guidance provided on how to access each remote appointment.

A new screening notification feature has been introduced for CervicalCheck and BowelScreen. Users will now receive a message within the app when they become eligible for either programme, along with information about the screening process and appointment guidance.

Damien McCallion, CTTO at the HSE, said:

"One of the aims of the HSE App is to transform the health service experience for patients and staff and ensure patients and their clinicians have access to the health information they need to achieve the best outcomes. Using the app will help patients access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

We are seeing nearly 1,000 downloads of the HSE App every day now, and I would encourage everyone over 16 to check it out and add it to their home screen."

The app already offers a wide range of features, including access to BreastCheck appointments, inpatient and day case waiting lists, GP referrals, digital health cards such as the European Health Insurance Card and Drug Payment Scheme Card, vaccination records, and chronic disease management tools. Care plan supports including smoking cessation, pregnancy information, and a ten-week physical activity programme are also available.

A verified MyGovID is required to access personal health information within the app. Users without a verified MyGovID can still access general health information and the HSE service finder. The app is available on iPhone 6 and above (iOS 13.4 or later) and Android devices running Android 10.1 or later.

The HSE Health App is available as a free download from the App Store and Google Play. Further information is available at hse.ie/health-app.
