Giant Recalls Bike Lock LED Keys Over Battery Risk
Giant has recalled SURELOCK bike lock LED keys as children can access the batteries. Stop using the LED key and return it to a Giant dealer for a refund.
Giant Europe B.V T/A GIANT is recalling various SURELOCK bike lock LED keys, after the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) published a recall notice on 20 October 2026. The keys have a battery compartment that children can easily access.
The recall notice states that the product presents a chemical and choking risk. A child could put the batteries in their mouth, causing choking, while swallowed batteries may also harm the digestive tract.
The LED keys were supplied with the SURELOCK PROTECTOR 1 DT, SURELOCK PROTECTOR 1 STD, SURELOCK PROTECTOR 1 LS, SURELOCK FLEX KEY COIL 15 and SURELOCK FLEX KEY COIL 12. There are approximately 5106 affected products in the Republic of Ireland, which were available between 2014 and August 2026.
Retailers in Cork and Munster named in the notice include Giant Store - Cork in Ballincollig, An Rothar in Midleton, O’Donovan Cycles in Bantry, Roche Cycles in Mitchelstown, David O’Sullivan Cycles in Killarney and Casey Cycle & Gas Supplies in Cahersiveen. The full list of retailers is available in the CCPC recall notice.
The lock itself remains fully secure and usable with the standard keys included. Only the LED key is affected by this recall, so customers should check whether their lock includes an LED key from the affected models.
If it does, customers should stop using the LED key immediately and keep it out of the reach of children. The LED key can be returned to the closest Giant dealer for a refund.
Anyone who is unable to return the product, or who has sold or gifted it, should contact GIANT so they can assist further. For more information, call 1800 849 148 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or email servicecentre@giant-bicycles.co.uk.
