Gardaí Seize €117,600 Worth of Cannabis in Ballymakeera Drugs Operation
Gardaí have seized €117,600 worth of cannabis and arrested a man in his 40s following a search of a property in Ballymakeera.
Gardaí have uncovered a sophisticated cannabis grow house and seized drugs with an estimated combined value of €117,600 following a search of a domestic residence in the Ballymakeera area.
The operation was carried out on Monday 8th June 2026 by the Cork North West Divisional Drugs Unit, accompanied by the Cork South West Divisional Drugs Unit, as part of Operation Tara and ongoing investigations targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs and organised crime.
Investigating Gardaí seized 122 suspected mature cannabis plants with an estimated value of €97,600, along with approximately one kilogram of suspected loose cannabis material with an estimated value of €20,000. Drug paraphernalia was also recovered.
An adult male, aged in his 40s, was arrested and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda station in the Southern Region.
The seized substances will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.
Operation Tara is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. Its focus is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at international, national and local levels, involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
