Fuel Protest Disruption Returns to Cork Roads for Second Day as Convoys Block Key Routes
Fuel protests causing major delays across Cork again this morning. N28, M8 and N22 Macroom Bypass all affected. Allow extra time on the roads.
Fuel protest convoys are causing significant traffic disruption across Cork for a second consecutive day this morning, with several key routes affected.
An Garda Síochána has confirmed slow-moving convoys and significant traffic delays on the M8 at Junction 18, Glanmire.
The N28 Shannonpark and Ringaskiddy road is also heavily affected, with a slow-moving convoy reported between Shannonpark Roundabout and Shanbally. Traffic on the N28 at Carrs Hill is experiencing significant delays as a result, with reports of the Shannonpark Roundabout area at a complete standstill. Motorists heading out of Carrigaline are also reporting significant queuing at Ballinrea Cross, with locals advising the use of backroads as an alternative.
The N22 Macroom Bypass is blocked by trucks at Coolcower.
Yesterday's protests saw widespread disruption across Cork, with convoys affecting the South Ring Road, N25, N20, M8, N71, Jack Lynch Tunnel, and routes through Mallow, Macroom, Mitchelstown, Blarney, and Midleton. Nationally, trucks and tractors converged on Dublin's O'Connell Street, where some protesters remained overnight.
Organisers indicated on social media last night that further convoy action would continue today, with some stating they would not leave Dublin until a meeting with Government Ministers was secured.
Motorists should expect ongoing disruption across Cork's road network this morning. Allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes where possible.
We will continue to update as the situation develops.
