Freemount Water Network Upgrade Delivers Stronger Supply for Duhallow Community
Uisce Éireann completes Freemount water mains upgrade, replacing 626 metres of ageing pipes to improve supply reliability for the north-west Cork community.
Families and businesses in Freemount, in the heart of the Duhallow, can look forward to a more reliable water supply after Uisce Éireann completed important upgrade works on the local water network.
The utility has replaced 626 metres of ageing water mains in the village with modern, resilient pipes. The older infrastructure had been prone to bursts and leaks, causing supply interruptions and wasting treated drinking water.
Works took place along Noonan Park and Allow Place and included the installation of new service connections from the public water main to property boundaries. The project commenced in mid-February and was carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said the upgrade had been delivered with the community's needs at its core.
"This upgrade has been delivered with the community's needs at its core. By replacing ageing pipes with modern, resilient infrastructure, we're improving water services today while strengthening resilience for the future.
Our teams work with great care and experience to reduce the risk of supply interruptions for customers during works and we're grateful to the local community for their patience and support throughout these essential upgrades. This investment is rooted in care for the people we serve."
The Freemount project is part of Uisce Éireann's wider National Leakage Reduction Programme. The utility manages more than 65,000 kilometres of underground water mains nationally, and national leakage has been reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today, its lowest level ever.
