Cork Gardaí Seize Scramblers And E-Scooters In Northside Safety Operation
Gardaí have seized scramblers and e-scooters in Cork's Northside this week, including one capable of reaching 87 km/h, seized from a 14-year-old.
Gardaí in Gurranabraher, working alongside colleagues in Mayfield Garda Station, have seized a number of scramblers and e-scooters this week as part of ongoing operations targeting the dangerous and illegal use of Personal Powered Transporters (PPTs) in Cork's Northside.
One e-scooter was seized from a 14-year-old. When tested at Gurranabraher Garda Station, the scooter was found capable of reaching a speed of 87 km/h under test conditions.
An Garda Síochána Cork, in a statement: "At these speeds, the potential for serious injury or loss of life is significant, particularly where young people are involved."
Gardaí are appealing to parents and guardians to carefully consider the risks before allowing children to use powered vehicles. High-powered e-scooters and scramblers are not toys and are not suitable for use by children, and allowing children to use them can place both the child and other road users at serious risk.
Gardaí said enforcement action will continue where powered vehicles are used dangerously or unlawfully, and thanked members of the public who continue to report concerns and support their efforts to keep communities safe.
