Cork County Mayor Urges Christmas Shoppers to Support Local Towns and Villages
Cork County businesses open for Christmas with special events and parking offers across towns and villages throughout December.
The Mayor of the County of Cork has called on people to shop locally this Christmas, with special events planned throughout December across towns and villages in the county.
Cllr Mary Linehan Foley is encouraging residents to support local businesses during the festive season, highlighting the challenging year many have faced. Special Christmas events for all ages are running throughout December in towns including Bantry, Mallow, Macroom and Youghal, featuring Christmas lights, markets and community celebrations.
Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, Mayor of the County of Cork, said:
"Shopping local at Christmas has huge benefits for your local economy. It has been a challenging year for many, and any support during the Christmas season is appreciated by your local businesses. Let's all go out to our towns and villages, enjoy the lights, displays and decorations, shop for Christmas gifts, eat in our cafes and restaurants, and enjoy the events that have been organised throughout the county."
Key events include the Youghal Christmas Market and concert on 13th December, while the popular Mallow Castle Illumination Walk returns on 7th December.
Moira Murrell, Chief Executive of Cork County Council, added:
"Continuing to support local businesses is of vital importance to Cork County Council. Shopping local means these businesses and local communities can continue to grow, which allow our towns and villages to thrive."
Cork County Council is providing special car parking arrangements across its operated car parks throughout December. Visitors are encouraged to check offers in their local area.
