Cork County Council Launches Free Summer Arts Programme for Children and Young People
Cork libraries launch free Summer Arts Programme for children and young people. Workshops run July and August.
Cork County Council's Library and Arts Service is launching its Summer Arts Programme, offering free activities and workshops in libraries across the county throughout July and August.
The programme runs in libraries countywide and covers crafting, music, dance, jewellery making, animation, printmaking and creative writing, catering for all age groups and all abilities. All workshops are free, all materials are supplied, and no experience is required.
For children aged 0 to 6, early years music workshops facilitated by Stacey Kavanagh take place in Macroom Library on 31 July and in Carrigaline Library on Thursday 6 and 20 August. Kate Jacques facilitates further early years music sessions in Clonakilty Library on 12 August and Dunmanway Library on 13 and 20 August. A Meitheal Song, a parent and baby singing circle, takes place in Cobh Library on 11 August.
Children aged 8 and over can take part in a "Make Your Own Scrappy Fabric Monster" workshop in Mallow Library on 25 July and Kanturk Library on 11 August.
For older young people, a printmaking workshop takes place in Bantry Library on 15 August, an animation workshop in Midleton Library on 27 August, and a visual art and photography workshop in Youghal Library on 11 August.
Inclusive Dance workshops with Rhona Coughlan, Creative Director of Inclusive Dance Cork, run in Kinsale Library on 13 and 20 August. The Shake: Dance Workshop with Laura Murphy and Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín takes place in Fermoy Library on 15 August.
A copper pendant making workshop with jewellery maker Nadine Lawton runs in Mitchelstown Library on 22 August, and a creative writing workshop using film footage, guided by Colm McAuliffe, takes place in Schull Library on 19 and 20 August. Further activities include poetry, creative writing, visual art and more, with details available from local libraries.
Cllr. Bernard Moynihan, Mayor of the County of Cork, launching the programme, said:
"Cork County Council recognises the important role that creativity, culture and learning play in supporting the confidence, wellbeing and personal development of children and young people. Through our Library and Arts Service, we provide free, inclusive spaces where people can explore new ideas, develop skills, enjoy creative experiences and connect with their communities. This summer's programme offers a diverse range of activities, including dance workshops and hands-on art classes, giving young people of all ages the opportunity to learn, discover and have fun together."
