Cork's biggest outdoor science festival is back, with more than 50 exhibitors, 22 live shows and a full programme of hands-on activities set to take over Fitzgerald Park this Saturday and Sunday.
Cork Carnival of Science takes place on 6 and 7 June, organised by Cork City Council and funded through the Research Ireland Discover Programme. Admission is free, and the event is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.
Highlights across the two days include Science 2 Life's new live show exploring the science behind potions and levitation, and RTÉ's Mark the Science Guy bringing his Science is My Superhero show to Fitzgerald Park, complete with live demonstrations and audience participation.
Science Made Simple will examine balance, movement and reaction times in a Science of Sport session, while Simply Science deliver their outdoor show What Could Possibly Go Wrong?, full of unexpected reactions and visual moments. The Circus Science Show from Inspirational Science combines stunts and tricks with demonstrations of the physics behind classic circus skills.
Other attractions include LEGO Education workshops, a marine life microscopy exhibit, Merck's Curiosity Cube travelling science lab, and the Living Seawalls project, which showcases how researchers and artists are working together to support marine biodiversity.
Beyond the main stages, the festival features interactive discovery zones, outdoor storytelling, roaming performers, giant bubbles and balloon-powered experiments throughout the weekend.
Research, sustainability and environmental innovation are key themes across the programme. Dedicated quiet spaces, interactive activity areas and a mobile sensory van are in place to ensure the festival is welcoming for all visitors.
