Cork Beach Lifeguards on Duty Today as Red Flag Flies at Owenahincha

The morning beach report shows mixed conditions along the Cork coastline, with wave heights ranging from flat calm to 3 to 4 foot messy waves. High tide is at 12:51pm today, with low tide following at 6:49pm.

Owenahincha is the standout for caution, flying a red flag with 3 to 4 foot messy waves and cross onshore winds under overcast skies. The beach is listed as unsuitable for aquatic activities, and swimmers should stay out of the water there.

Inchydoney is displaying separate flags for its east and west sides. A red flag is flying on the east side, which is listed as unsuitable, while the west side is supervised between the red and yellow flags. Swimming is not permitted in the channels, and the beach is showing a 3 foot choppy swell with cloudy skies and a light onshore wind.

At Youghal Claycastle, swimming is not permitted at the pipe. The beach is otherwise suitable for swimming and families, with half to one foot waves, overcast skies and a moderate cross shore wind.

In West Cork, Barleycove is suitable for swimming and surfing with 3 foot waves, overcast skies and a light cross onshore wind. Garrettstown is also open for swimming and surfing, though it is the wettest spot on the report, with rain and strong onshore winds driving 3 foot waves. The Warren near Rosscarbery is calmer, with 1 foot waves, overcast skies and a light cross onshore breeze, and is suitable for swimming and families. Tragumna is the sunniest beach today, flat calm with a light onshore breeze, and suitable for swimming and families.

Closer to the city, Fountainstown is flat calm with overcast skies and a light cross shore wind, suitable for swimming and families. Garrylucas is showing a small chop with cloudy skies and a light onshore wind, while Garryvoe has a small chop with overcast skies and a moderate cross shore wind. Both remain suitable for swimming and families.

In East Cork, the Youghal beaches are largely settled. Front Strand has a small swell with overcast skies and a light cross shore wind, while Redbarn is flat calm with a cross shore breeze. Both are suitable for swimming and families.

The lifeguard service is reminding all beachgoers to follow the flags and the lifeguards on duty.

Cork County Council Beach Lifeguard Service:

"Please swim between the red/yellow flags and listen to the lifeguards."

Dog owners are asked to keep their pets on a lead while on lifeguarded beaches and to clean up after them. Drivers are also reminded to park responsibly, keeping emergency bays clear and avoiding any obstruction to other road users.
