Nineteen Cork schools have been approved for funding under the 2027 Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, according to Fine Gael Senator Eileen Lynch (Cork North West).

The Department of Education and Youth has announced an €80 million investment nationally, with 229 projects approved under the latest tranche of the scheme. The programme supports schools in carrying out essential building improvement works while also delivering climate action measures that improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and lower running costs.

Senator Lynch welcomed the announcement and said the funding will make a real difference to school communities across the county.

Senator Eileen Lynch:

“I warmly welcome this funding for schools across Cork under the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme. This investment will help schools improve their buildings, reduce energy costs and create more sustainable learning environments for students and staff.

The scheme is a practical example of how we can support our schools while also meeting our climate objectives. By investing in measures such as improved insulation, energy-efficient lighting and other sustainability upgrades, we are helping schools become more comfortable, efficient and environmentally friendly.”

Senator Lynch particularly welcomed the approval of funding for Coláiste Treasa, Kanturk and Dromina National School.

“I am particularly pleased to see funding approved for Coláiste Treasa, Kanturk, and Dromina National School. Both schools play a vital role in their communities, and I have no doubt this investment will have a positive impact for students, staff and families for years to come.”

Across the country, 229 projects have been approved, with €80 million being invested under the scheme.

Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton:

“This €80 million investment will support schools across the country to improve the quality, sustainability and energy efficiency of their buildings, creating better learning and working environments for students and staff.

This investment not only helps schools address important building needs but also contributes to our wider climate objectives by improving energy performance and reducing operating costs over time.”

Senator Lynch concluded by congratulating the schools involved.

“I want to congratulate all 19 Cork schools that have secured funding under this programme. This is a significant investment in our education infrastructure and in the future of our young people. I look forward to seeing these projects progress and the benefits they will deliver to school communities across the county.”
