12,000 Coloured Balls Set to Race Down Patrick's Hill for Cork First Responders
12,000 coloured balls will race down Patrick's Hill on 15 March at 2pm raising funds for Cork's first responders. Balls just €2 at corklionsclub.ie
Cork Lions Club has announced the return of its popular Patrick's Hill Ball Run, now in its 11th year, with 12,000 multi-coloured balls set to cascade down one of Cork's steepest streets on Sunday, 15 March at 2pm. Funds raised will go directly to local first responder groups and charities.
The main beneficiaries of this year's event will be Cork City First Responders, Glanmire First Responders, and Glounthaune First Responders, along with Cork City Missing Persons Search & Recovery and other local charities.
Each ball is individually numbered and released from a cage at the top of Patrick's Hill in what has become one of the highlights of the Patrick's Weekend Festival. The balls are guided down the hill and gathered in a trap at the bottom, where the first six across the line win a prize. Balls cost €2 each and can be purchased on the hill on the day or online at www.corklionsclub.ie.
Cork Lions President Declan Moon said:
"This is our 11th Ball Run and Cork Lions Club are delighted to use this year's Patrick's Hill Ball Run to support the Cork City First Responders, Glanmire First Responders and Glounthaune First Responders. This is a great family friendly event and is one of our main fundraisers; we greatly appreciate the support of the people of Cork!"
Cork Lions Club will also use the occasion to collect old spectacles as part of their Recycle for Sight Campaign, which cleans, grades, and distributes donated glasses to eye clinics in developing countries. Members of the public are encouraged to bring along any unwanted glasses on the day.
Cork Lions Club is a non-profit voluntary group that fundraises in support of local charities and international Lions appeals, with every euro collected going directly to charities. The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month from September to June at the Clayton Hotel, and new members are welcome.
