Yellow Wind and Rain Warnings Issued for Cork
Heavy rain Monday night 21:00-09:00, strong winds Tuesday 03:00-21:00.
Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow warnings for Cork, with heavy rain and strong winds set to bring challenging conditions from Monday night through Tuesday.
The rainfall warning, issued at 09:04 this morning, comes into effect at 21:00 on Monday 8 December and remains in place until 09:00 on Tuesday. This is followed by a wind warning from 03:00 to 21:00 on Tuesday 9 December, issued earlier at 09:01.
Rainfall Warning
The Yellow rainfall warning affects seven counties: Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary, Carlow, Kilkenny, and Wexford.
Met Éireann warns of heavy rain falling on already saturated ground, which could lead to localised flooding across the affected areas. Difficult travel conditions are expected, and outdoor events may be impacted.
Wind Warning
The wind warning covers a much wider area, affecting all 26 counties including Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Tipperary, Clare, Galway, and Mayo.
Met Éireann warns of very strong and gusty southerly winds with gales possible near coasts. The forecaster has highlighted an increased risk in coastal areas due to the coincidence of these conditions with very high spring tides.
Potential impacts include difficult travel conditions, flooding of low-lying coastal areas, wave overtopping, displaced debris and loose objects, and disruption to outdoor events.
Weather Outlook
Met Éireann's national outlook highlights uncertainty in the track of a deepening area of low pressure moving up from the south Atlantic close to Ireland on Monday night into Tuesday. Current indications suggest very windy conditions, with possibly stormy weather developing in parts of the west and northwest.
Monday will be bright with sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy. Cloud will increase from the southwest through the afternoon and evening, with rain developing later in the evening. Highest temperatures will reach 10 to 12 degrees.
The rain will intensify on Monday night with some heavy falls and spot flooding possible, particularly in southern parts including Cork. These wet conditions should give way to brighter showery weather on Tuesday, though strong winds will persist throughout the day.
Temperatures will remain mild, with overnight lows of 7 to 11 degrees on Monday night, rising to 13 to 15 degrees on Tuesday.
