Yellow Weather Warning: Icy Conditions and Frost Expected Across Cork
Yellow ice warning for Cork: temperatures dropping to -3°C from 11:00 today until 09:00 tomorrow. Treacherous conditions expected on roads.
Met Éireann has issued a Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Cork and 21 other counties, with temperatures set to plummet to as low as -3 degrees. The warning comes into effect at 11:00 this morning and remains in place until 09:00 tomorrow morning (Tuesday 6 January).
The national forecaster warns that temperatures will fall to between -1 and -3 degrees generally across affected areas. Sharp frost and icy stretches are expected, with black ice posing particular hazards on untreated surfaces.
Met Éireann has cautioned that these conditions will create treacherous travel conditions on roads and footpaths. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly during the evening commute and early morning hours when temperatures will be at their lowest.
The warning affects 22 counties: Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow.
The warning was issued at 08:56 this morning and will expire at 09:00 tomorrow morning as temperatures are expected to rise slightly.
Road users are reminded to allow extra time for journeys, reduce speed in icy conditions, and ensure vehicles are properly prepared for winter driving. Pedestrians should also take care on potentially icy footpaths and surfaces.
