Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued for Cork
Heavy rain on saturated ground may cause flooding and difficult driving conditions.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford, with heavy and persistent rain expected to fall on already saturated ground from Friday morning through Saturday morning.
The national forecaster issued the warning at 09:12 this morning, Thursday 13 November, with the alert coming into effect at 09:00 tomorrow morning and remaining in place until 09:00 on Saturday 15 November.
The warning highlights the risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall falling on ground that is already waterlogged from recent wet weather. Motorists are being advised to expect difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility during the warning period.
Cork residents can expect a brief respite today, with scattered heavy showers and occasional sunny periods. Temperatures will reach between 10 and 14 degrees with light to moderate variable winds.
However, conditions will deteriorate tonight as the county becomes mainly cloudy with scattered heavy showers early on. The weather will become drier for a time before outbreaks of rain or drizzle move into southern areas later in the night. Temperatures will drop to between 7 and 11 degrees with a moderate to fresh northeasterly wind developing.
Friday will bring the worst of the weather, with widespread rain or drizzle across Cork throughout the day. Conditions will be quite windy with fresh to strong northeasterly winds, and temperatures struggling to reach between 8 and 12 degrees.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday should see an improvement for Cork, with northern areas experiencing the driest and brightest weather. Cloud and patchy rain or drizzle may linger across the county initially, but this should become more isolated as the day progresses. Winds will ease, though it will remain rather windy early on.
Sunday is expected to be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, offering a welcome break from the wet conditions.
Motorists using major routes including the N40, N20, N22, and M8 should allow extra time for journeys during the warning period and drive with caution in wet conditions.
