Western Brand Issues Further Chicken Recall Affecting Aldi, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Inishella and Its Own Brand

Western Brand is recalling various batches of chicken products sold in Aldi, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, and under its Inishella and Western Brand labels, due to the presence of Salmonella. It is the third Western Brand chicken recall issued in the past week.

The Category 1 recall notice (Alert Notification 2026.24) was issued on Thursday, 14 May 2026. The affected products carry approval number IE 818 EC and are of Irish origin.

Two batch codes are implicated: 26117-353 and 26124-640. Use by dates across the affected products range from 5 May 2026 to 14 May 2026. A full list of products and batches has been published with the recall notice.

According to the notice, although some of the implicated batches are past their use by date, the products are suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batches.

The recall covers products including whole chickens, fillets, mini fillets, diced chicken, drumsticks, thighs, wings, and various marinated and stuffed chicken lines. Affected ranges include Aldi own-brand chicken, Tesco fresh chicken products, Dunnes Stores chicken products, Lidl chicken products, and Inishella and Western Brand-branded items.

Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.

People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
