West Cork Rally Gets Under Way in Clonakilty With Major Garda Presence

An Garda Síochána has confirmed a significant policing operation is in place as the West Cork Rally kicks off in Clonakilty today, Friday 13 March 2026.

Local Gardaí have held a series of planning meetings with rally organisers ahead of the event, with a policing plan now active for the full weekend.

Spectators are being urged to choose their viewing locations carefully and to follow all directions from both organisers and Gardaí on the ground.

An Garda Síochána said:

"We ask all spectators to be cautious of what locations they decide to watch the rally from. Pay attention, do not put yourself or others in danger. Follow organiser and Garda direction and if in doubt, get in touch with us."

A zero tolerance approach will be taken to dangerous driving throughout the event. Gardaí will be strictly enforcing a range of lifesaver offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, and use of a mobile phone while driving.

The message from Gardaí is clear: enjoy the rally, but do so safely and responsibly.
