Water Main Replacement Works to Begin in Walshtown, Lisgoold
Water main replacement works begin next week in Walshtown, Lisgoold as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme. Completion expected early May.
Uisce Éireann is set to replace ageing water mains along the L3601 in Walshtown, Lisgoold, with works due to start next week and scheduled to wrap up in early May.
The project forms part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, an ongoing national effort to modernise Ireland's water network and reduce the loss of treated drinking water.
The existing pipes in the area have been prone to frequent bursts, causing disruption for homes and businesses while also wasting treated drinking water, a precious resource.
Works will also include laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting them to customers' water supply.
Jack Cronin, Uisce Éireann, said:
"Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal, providing a water supply people can count on. Its impact is felt every day, in every tap, home and community. By focusing on delivering that reliable supply, we continue to strengthen water service resilience for the people of Walshtown, today and for generations to come."
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in early May.
Ireland's national leakage rate has fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36%, its lowest level on record, with projects like this contributing to that progress across more than 65,000km of underground pipes nationally.
