Water Flushing Works to Begin in Blackrock Road Area This Monday
Water flushing works begin Monday evening in Blackrock Road area. Expected to take 4 nights. Run cold tap 20 minutes if water discoloured.

Uisce Éireann will commence the next phase of intensive water quality improvement works across several Blackrock Road neighbourhoods on Monday evening, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle discolouration issues affecting Cork City homes and businesses.
The targeted flushing programme will begin on the evening of 14 July and is expected to take approximately four nights to complete. Areas covered include Blackrock Road from Dun Raven Downs to Cleve Hill, Richmond Estate, Clanrickarde Estate, and Cleve Hill.
This marks the third area to receive treatment in three weeks as Uisce Éireann accelerates its network improvement plan designed to address water discolouration problems caused by sediment and naturally occurring metals such as manganese and iron becoming dislodged from older cast iron pipes.
James Goulding, Water Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann:
"Our crews are moving through this round of Uisce Éireann's intensive flushing programme at pace, as we move onto the third area in three weeks. We continue to ask customers to continue to report any instances of discolouration."
To minimise disruption, the works will be carried out during off-peak hours, typically starting after 10pm and finishing in the early hours of the morning. This timing allows the network to return to normal before morning demand begins, reducing the likelihood of discoloured water reaching customers' taps.
Signage will be installed as works progress through each area, and residents are advised to check the supply and services section at www.water.ie for updates.
Should water discolouration occur, Uisce Éireann recommends running the cold kitchen tap for up to 20 minutes, which typically restores water to a clear colour. The water remains safe to drink once running clear.
Customers experiencing persistent discolouration issues are encouraged to contact Uisce Éireann directly on 1800 278 278.
Additional information on manganese and iron in drinking water is available through HSE frequently asked questions documents on the Uisce Éireann website.
