Water Flushing Works Expand to Additional Cork City Areas Next Week
Water flushing works start Monday evening in High East and High South-East Cork areas. Night-time works to improve water quality continue for four nights.

Uisce Éireann will begin the next phase of its intensive water quality improvement programme on Monday evening, targeting new areas in High East and High South-East Cork City. The proactive flushing works aim to address ongoing water discolouration issues affecting homes and businesses across the city.
The planned flushing programme will commence on the evening of Monday, 23 June and is expected to take approximately four nights to complete. Areas included in this phase of works span two key districts of the city.
In High East, crews will target Lotamore Drive, Lotamore Close, Briarwood, Lotabeg Green, Lotabeg Terrace, Bawnleigh Court, and Lotamore Lawn. The High South-East areas include Silvercourt, Halcon Drive, Silversprings Court, Tivoli Estate, and Tivoli Estate Upper.
James Goulding, Water Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann:
"We are advancing through these areas of Cork City efficiently. These works remain a top priority for Uisce Éireann and are an integral part of the improvement works underway to address reports of discolouration. We would like to thank our customers for their continued patience while our crews work diligently to complete this phase of flushing."
To minimise disruption to residents, all works will be carried out during night-time hours, typically starting after 10pm and finishing in the early hours of the morning. This timing allows the water network to return to normal before morning demand begins, reducing the likelihood of discoloured water appearing at customers' taps.
Signage will be placed in affected areas as works progress. Residents experiencing water discolouration should run their cold kitchen tap for up to 20 minutes, which usually restores water to a clear colour. The water remains safe to drink once it runs clear.
Water discolouration typically occurs when sediment, including naturally occurring metals such as manganese and iron, becomes dislodged from older cast iron pipes during network maintenance.
If discolouration issues persist after following the recommended steps, customers should contact Uisce Éireann directly on 1800 278 278. Additional information and advice is available at www.water.ie/help/water-quality/discoloured-water/.
