Urgent Recall: Hogan's Farm Turkey Burgers May Contain Salmonella

Consumers are urged to check their freezers for Hogan's Farm Turkey Burgers with a use by date of 26 July 2025, as the product is being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The Food Safety Authority has issued an urgent recall notice for the 400g packs of Hogan's Farm Turkey Burgers bearing approval number IE 827 EC. While the product's use by date has passed, the burgers were suitable for home freezing, meaning Cork households may still have affected packs stored in their freezers.

Salmonella contamination poses serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups including the elderly, infants, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically appear within 12 to 36 hours of consumption and include diarrhoea, which may be bloody, along with fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.

The illness usually lasts between four and seven days, though severe cases may require hospitalisation, especially when diarrhoea leads to dehydration. Anyone who has consumed the affected product and experiences symptoms should contact their GP immediately.

Consumers who find the recalled turkey burgers in their freezers should not eat them under any circumstances. The affected batch should be disposed of safely or returned to the point of purchase. Recall notices are being displayed in shops where the product was sold.

The specific batch details are: Hogan's Farm Turkey Burgers, 400g pack size, approval number IE 827 EC, with use by date 26 July 2025. Only this specific batch is affected by the recall.

This recall serves as an important reminder for Cork families to regularly check frozen products, particularly those approaching or past their use by dates, even when frozen storage extends shelf life.
