Updated Weather Warning: Cork and Kerry Face Heavy Rain Tonight

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry, with heavy spells of blustery rain expected from 20:00 tonight until 03:00 Wednesday morning.

The national weather service issued the warning at 09:24 this morning, covering both counties for a seven-hour period. Forecasters are warning of difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, and possible localised flooding during the heavy downpours.

The warning begins at 20:00 tonight, meaning evening rush hour traffic should avoid the worst conditions. However, residents should exercise caution on major Cork routes including the N40, M8, and N25 during the warning period.

Cork's flood-prone areas, including parts of the city centre and low-lying regions across the county, may be particularly at risk during the heaviest rainfall. Surface water and debris could affect roads throughout the county.

Wednesday morning's commute may encounter lingering effects from overnight rainfall, though conditions should improve as the warning expires at 03:00.
