Unsettled Week Ahead with Two Windy Spells and Potential Disruptions
A mild but unsettled week ahead with rain, showers, and occasional sunny spells. Temperatures will reach up to 14°C, with thunderstorms possible on Thursday.

The weather across Ireland this week will remain unsettled, with mild temperatures accompanied by periods of rain, gusty winds, and two particularly windy episodes that may cause some disruption, according to forecasts from Met Éireann and Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel.
Today, Tuesday 18th February:
A damp and misty start will give way to drier conditions with hazy sunshine by afternoon, though isolated patches of drizzle may persist. Temperatures will range from 8 to 12 degrees, with fresh to strong southeast winds, particularly near coastal areas.
Tonight:
Cloud cover will increase with rain spreading from the southwest overnight, clearing by morning. Lows will range from 5 to 8 degrees, with moderate to fresh southeast winds easing later.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 19th February:
The morning will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells, before showery outbreaks of rain develop in the southwest by midday, with fresh and gusty southeast winds. Some heavy falls are possible, and daytime highs will reach between 11 and 13 degrees.
First Windy Spell: Thursday Night into Friday Morning
Thursday will begin with rain, some of which could lead to spot flooding. Thunderstorms are possible as the rain clears eastwards, leaving behind scattered showers. Temperatures will reach 10 to 14 degrees with fresh to strong southwest winds.
On Thursday night, a deepening secondary low will bring the first episode of high winds, with gusts potentially reaching 100 km/h in coastal regions of the west, south, and east. Disruptions to services, particularly power and transport, are possible.
Friday:
The rain will clear eastwards during the morning, followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Winds will ease slightly later, and temperatures will remain mild, peaking between 9 and 13 degrees.
Second Windy Spell: Saturday Night into Sunday Morning
Saturday will start with sunny spells and scattered showers, particularly along the Atlantic coast. However, conditions will deteriorate later as another Atlantic storm approaches. This system could bring winds of 100 km/h across the west and northwest, with exposed coastal areas potentially experiencing gusts of up to 120 km/h.
Sunday:
A mild but windy day is forecast, with rain clearing eastwards by late morning, followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Highs will reach between 11 and 14 degrees.
Residents, especially in coastal areas, are advised to prepare for potential disruptions to power and transport services during the two forecasted windy episodes. Secure outdoor items, exercise caution while travelling, and stay updated with the latest weather reports.
