UK Prime Minister in Cork: Traffic Measures in Place Today as Visit Continues

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is in Cork today, Friday 13th March, on the second day of a two-day visit to the city. An Garda Síochána has advised the public to allow extra time for potential delays, with temporary rolling road closures expected throughout Friday morning as security escorts continue to operate.

The Prime Minister is travelling via Cork Airport, and those flying out in the early afternoon today are particularly advised to allow additional time to reach the airport.

Thursday evening’s planned road closures, which were in place between 4pm and 10pm on Lapp’s Quay, Connell Street, and Terence MacSwiney Quay, have now concluded.

Today’s disruption is expected to take the form of temporary rolling closures rather than fixed ones, in line with security escort requirements. Any impact is anticipated to be localised, with An Garda Síochána confirming it is working to keep restrictions to the minimum necessary.

The Garda Press Office is liaising with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and public transport providers to minimise wider disruption across the network.

Businesses and residents in affected areas have been contacted directly and will continue to receive updates throughout the day.

Members of the public are asked to follow the directions of Gardaí on the ground. Operational plans remain subject to change for security reasons.

Real-time updates are being issued by the Garda Press Office via the Garda website at www.garda.ie and official Garda social media channels.
