Uisce Éireann To Replace Water Mains In Shannonvale, Clonakilty
Uisce Éireann begins water main works in Shannonvale, Clonakilty next week. L4031 closure 26 Oct–27 Nov.
Crews will install 6.5km of new pipes along the R600, N71, L4032 and L4031 in Shannonvale. Uisce Éireann said the existing pipes were prone to bursts and leaks, leading to supply interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, welcomed the project:

By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we're helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Clonakilty, now and for generations to come."
Works will begin next week and will include installing new water service connections from the public main to customers' property boundaries, linking them to the water supply. The project is being delivered by Ward and Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by May 2027.
A temporary road closure will be in place along the L4031 from Monday 26 October until Friday 27 November, with a signed diversion route provided. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained throughout.
Uisce Éireann said the project forms part of its wider National Leakage Reduction Programme. The company manages more than 65,000km of underground pipes nationally, enough to circle the earth one and a half times, and national leakage has fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
