Uisce Éireann to Conduct Water Flushing in Cork City Following Discolouration Reports

Irish Water will carry out reactive flushing in the Buxton Hill area of Cork City tomorrow following reports of water discolouration from residents.

The utility company says the flushing operation is designed to address localised instances of discolouration, though it warns customers that the process may initially cause short-term water discolouration before conditions improve in the following days.

Uisce Éireann will place signage in the affected area to inform residents of the works. The company has advised customers to check the supply and services section of their website for updates.

Residents experiencing water discolouration are recommended to run their cold kitchen tap for up to 20 minutes to restore clear water. The company emphasises that the water remains safe to drink once it runs clear.

"Uisce Éireann remains committed to addressing instances of water discolouration for affected customers and continues its work to improve water quality for homes and businesses in Cork City," the company stated.

Customers who continue to experience problems after following the recommended steps are encouraged to contact Uisce Éireann directly on 1800 278 278.

The Health Service Executive has published guidance on both manganese and iron in drinking water, which are common causes of discolouration. These documents are available on the HSE website for customers seeking additional information about water quality.

The flushing operation is part of Uisce Éireann's ongoing efforts to maintain and improve water quality across the Cork City network.
