Uisce Éireann Introduces Overnight Water Restrictions in Freemount and Dromina

Uisce Éireann has announced essential overnight water restrictions for residents in Freemount and Dromina to maintain reservoir levels and ensure continuous daytime supply.

The restrictions will be implemented tonight (20 May) from 10pm until 6am, with officials stating the timing has been chosen to minimise disruption to customers.

"We are mindful of the impact that these nighttime restrictions can have, but they are essential to safeguard continuous daytime supply," said Michael Bell, Water Network Operations Manager for Uisce Éireann.

For those affected, an alternative water supply will be made available adjacent to the church in Dromina from 11am on Wednesday, 21 May. Customers are advised to bring their own containers when collecting water from the tanker and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure, in accordance with HSE guidance.

The water utility is urging customers to adopt water conservation practices during this period. Simple measures such as turning off taps while brushing teeth or shaving can save up to six litres of water per minute. Other suggestions include taking showers instead of baths and using watering cans rather than hoses for gardening.

Property owners of unoccupied buildings are also encouraged to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required. Customers who notice visible leaks are asked to report them promptly to assist with investigations.

For additional conservation tips, customers can use the Uisce Éireann conservation calculator at www.water.ie/calculatorto assess their current water usage and identify ways to reduce consumption.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann will receive direct communications regarding planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

The Uisce Éireann customer care team is available 24/7 on 1800 278 278, and updates can be found in the service and supply section of www.water.ie. Customers can also sign up for real-time text alerts by registering their Eircode and mobile number on the text alerts page.
