Two Men Charged Following €660,000 Cannabis Seizure in Cork City
Two men charged following €660,000 cannabis seizure in Cork city. Both remanded to appear before Cork District Court on 22nd April 2026.
Gardaí have charged two men following the seizure of suspected cannabis with an estimated value of €660,000 in Cork city this week. Both appeared before a special sitting of Mallow District Court today.
The operation began on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, when Gardaí stopped and searched a vehicle in Cork city, seizing €50,000 worth of suspected cannabis.
Following the initial seizure, Gardaí carried out searches under warrant at several locations across Cork city. During these searches, suspected cannabis with an estimated value of €610,000 was seized, subject to analysis.
Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested in connection with the investigation. Both have been charged and appeared before a special sitting of Mallow District Court today, Saturday, 24th January 2026.
Both men have been remanded to appear before Cork District Court on Wednesday, 22nd April 2026.
The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.
The seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The operation focuses on disrupting, dismantling and prosecuting drug trafficking networks at all levels, from international to local operations involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production and supply of controlled drugs.
