Targeted Water Flushing Works to Begin in Cork City on 18 March
Water flushing works will take place in Ard Patrick, Mount Farran, and Farran Cleary Place from 18 March for up to three nights.

Uisce Éireann is set to commence the next phase of its targeted flushing programme in Cork City, aiming to enhance water quality for residents and businesses.
The flushing works, which are part of a broader network improvement plan to address water discolouration, will take place in Ard Patrick, Mount Farran, and Farran Cleary Place on the northside of Cork City. The operation is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 18 March, and is expected to last for up to three nights.
James Goulding, Water Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann, highlighted the importance of these works:
"This is the final phase of our planned flushing programme in the Inter South Central District Meter Area. On Tuesday night, we aim to begin zone four on the northside of Cork City. We are seeing positive benefits from undertaking this programme of flushing, and we will continue to closely monitor any instances of discolouration as our crews work to tackle these incidents."
To minimise inconvenience to the community, the works will be carried out at night, typically starting after 10pm and concluding in the early hours of the morning. This approach ensures that the network has time to stabilise before peak morning demand, reducing the likelihood of discoloured water at customer taps.
Uisce Éireann advises customers to check the supply and service updates on www.water.ie for the latest information. Signage will also be in place in affected areas.
The utility company reassures the public that discoloured water caused by flushing is safe to drink once it runs clear. Water discolouration can result from sediment in older pipes, maintenance work on the network, or naturally occurring metals such as manganese and iron. More information on manganese in drinking water is available in the HSE’s FAQ document: here.
Uisce Éireann appreciates the patience of Cork City residents as they continue efforts to improve water quality and regrets any inconvenience caused.
