Surface Flooding Expected on Cork City Quays This Evening and Thursday Morning
Cork City Council warns of surface flooding on city quays at high tide tonight (7.24pm) and tomorrow morning (7.47am). Expect delays on affected routes.
Cork City Council is warning of localised surface flooding on several low-lying city centre quays at high tide this evening and tomorrow morning, as high tides coincide with a forecasted tidal storm surge.
High tides are expected at:
- Wednesday, 4 February: 7.24pm
- Thursday, 5 February: 7.47am
While no property damage is anticipated, surface water is expected to affect the following areas:
- Wandesford Quay
- Lavitts Quay
- Union Quay
- Kyrl's Quay
- South Terrace
Cork City Council is closely monitoring the situation and will have crews on standby to respond as required.
No road closures are expected this evening, but temporary lane restrictions may be necessary in certain areas at certain times. This may impact traffic flow and public transport timetables for a short period, though any lane restrictions will be lifted quickly once high tide passes.
Motorists are advised against parking in the affected areas before high tide, to drive with care in these locations, and to allow extra time for potential diversions or delays.
Pedestrians are advised to exercise care in the affected areas during the high tide times.
Commuters should expect possible delays and plan their journeys accordingly, particularly if travelling through the city centre quays during the high tide periods.
